Week 10 04/02/2025

I was able to relate the new information I learned today and find out more about the controlled versus uncontrolled factors and how they effect evolution and natural selection. Additionally, I learned more about mutations which I already knew could be positive or negative. However, now I have learned about how internal and external factors affect mutations. Lastly, I was able to relate what I knew about predator and prey and related it to our simulation that we participated in class. I noticed that we went over knowledge that I was familiar with including how different prey have advantages and disadvantages to catch prey.

The parts that I found clear in class were in regards to the definitions of mutation, natural selection and evolution. The parts that I tended to find confusing were differentiating between the kinds and the factors in which cause these things. I think that some of the causes have overlap and others do not so after some practice these became less confusing, but right when they were introduced I had to think through my reasoning and figure out the differences. Another part that I found clear was making our hypotheses and then testing them through the simulation.

I can apply what I have learned to my future classroom by continuing to learn what practices for hands-on learning are recommended. I want to continue to learn and use technology as discussed in class today to further enrich my students learning for more practice, examples, simulations, and other learning techniques that are benefitted through the use of technology. I also want to make sure my future students are able to use prediction

statements to learn in their simulations an dlabs.

  1. Hello Madison! I also learned more about what it means to have a controlled or uncontrolled environment. Making the hypothesis and conducting this simulation was also clear to me because it is something that I have done quite a few times now. I also agree that technology is important and pivotal for students learning, especially in today's age. I see your photo of our fast plant... I was sad that we couldn't harvest our seeds! Overall, amazing detailed post! Great work!

  2. Hello Madison!
I really enjoyed reading about what you learned during Science Methods this week. I also found making hypotheses and testing them was clear. Using technology in the classroom is a wonderful tool to help students understand science topics. Not only can you introduce hands-on activities, but you can also introduce technology use. Great job, Madison!

  3. Hi Maddie! I really enjoyed reading your blog this week. I also thought this activity was a great, hands on way to learn about evolution in a way that is applicable to our students. I also think it is a great idea that you connected this week's learning to the predator-prey relationship, I hadn't thought of that and I think it is another great way to explain this activity and its impact. Great job this week!
