Week 6 Blog 02/26/25
What did you learn this week?
I learned a lot more facts about turtles specifically in lab this week. I did not know how low survival rates were, or that raccoons or cats hunted turtles. I think that is so interesting. I knew that humans rate of creating plastic was harming turtles, but I learned that we endanger them so much by driving as well when turtles get stuck in the tire tracks. Also, it is hard to believe that only 1 in 1000 turtles survive. Also, I liked learning more about bees and how they pollinate. That experiment kind of grossed me out, but it was interesting to see how the pollen sticks to the bees and then moves to the next flower so that it can make seeds.
Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew?

How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?
I can apply what I have learned in my future teaching by using the book that was used in class named "Turtle, Turtle, Watch Out" and the interactive paper game. I want to use these tactics in my future teaching to engage my students, teach them how to analyze the data from the graph created by me showing realistic qualities of sea turtle mortality. In general with science I want to be able to incorporate engaging games to teach real life concepts because I think that movement in the classroom and fun are some of the best ways that I myself have learned and retained information.
Hello Madison! I also learned a lot of new information about sea turtles this week. I also didn't know that cats and raccoons attack sea turtles. I found it very interesting that you are very diligent with recycling. That is a great habit to have to help our planet! I would also like to use the book "Turtle, Turtle, Watch Out" with a future class. I thought that the interactive game was very engaging and would definitely get students excited to learn. Great post!
ReplyDeleteHi Madison! I also agree that I was able to relate previous knowledge that I have to what we learned this week about sea turtles. I think it is so sad when we looked at the picture of the sea turtle with the plastic straw stuck in it. I know that it can be hard to not use plastic straws, but there also other options so it isn't like we would never use straws again because there are paper straws as well as reusable straws that we can use. I also agreed that the activity we did with the sea turtles this week was very engaging and a great way to create fun around the subject of science. I know for me we when I was in elementary school and even junior high it was so boring to just have lectures or fill out worksheets the entire class time so I think this was a great way to see how even a simple activity can be really fun.
ReplyDeleteHi Maddie! I also learned a lot more about turtles this week in lab than I had ever learned before. The book "Turtle Turtle Watch Out" was a really valuable resource to teach students about turtles and the risks they face. I really loved reading about your conservation efforts and how we can apply these topics to teaching our students about helping our environment and what they can do to help. Really great job Maddie!
